Zoey’s Last Night with Shane Alexander

In October we opened for Shane Alexander at Zoey’s Cafe in Ventura! It was an awesome night, as Zoey’s always is!

However, we didn’t know until after our set that it was the last night at this legendary venue. Polly and Steve, Zoey’s super amazing and kind hearted owners, had decided to move on. The show was incredible, but bittersweet, as everyone there had a twinge of sadness. At the same time, we were so honored to be able to be a part of this historical evening!

We first found Zoey’s about three years ago. Sé was speaking at an awesome indie biz conference nearby and we sang some songs at their opening dinner. After the show we popped by Zoey’s were we met Polly and Steve. They were so friendly and kind, it was like we had been Ventura locals for years! We immediately wanted to play a show there someday.

We fianlly made it happen on our way out of LA for the northern leg of the Open Tour this summer! Zoey’s had an open mic scheduled, so we happily put it in our schedule. We didn’t realize we were signing up for a singer-songwriter competition! We ended up winning the first night of Zoey’s One’s To Watch series, a super cool event that allows singer-songwriters to perform in front of an audience and a panel of professional industry judges.

That is how we met Shane Alexander! He was one of the judges and he had very kind words to say about our performance. Needless to say we were so stoked when Polly got in touch to ask us to open for him. The fact that is was the last night at Zoey’s made it even more special.

Zoey’s will truly be missed by its local and extended community. Under POlly and Steve’s stweardship, Zoey’s had showcased a range of musicians thoughout it’s time. It has been a shining light of a venue because it was run by shining souls. But all things change and move and grow. So we trust and hope that this will be the beginning of a wonderful and exciting new chapter for Polly and Steve!

Thanks so much!
