Tour Night 6: Blue Rock Shoot – Saratoga, CA

We headed over the mountains after the fiasco with the fuel pump and made our way down into the Portola Redwood Forest. It was a most pleasant relief from the dry, intense heat of the valleys. We set up our camp and soaked in a few minutes of Redwood wonder and then took the road back up to the small, mountain-nestled town of Saratoga. We got there at the last minute and ended up playing as soon as we got out of the car. We were all a little delusional from the crazy fuel pump effect afternoon, but we got up there and played!

Blue Rock Shoot was a very home-y, lovable three story restuarant/coffee house/venue! We had a great time meeting everyone. The open mic hosts were quite spunky but ran a great show on a tiny but adorable stage. They had two sets of performers and we got on both lists! There were a lot of locals, including a long time open mic performer who had moved away and was visiting again that night! We enjoyed a long evening of music, poetry, hymns, and jam sessions and then trekked back over mountains to our beautiful, redwood oasis.

After sleeping in the Redwoods and an open-fire breakfast (polenta is the most amazing camping food), we packed up and headed to Slymar … all the way down through the heart of California in the heat of a late June valley day.
