Tour Night 4: Rosie McCann’s – June 25

To get to Santa Cruz, we took a beautiful, drizzly drive up the 17. Our campsite for the night was the backyard of The Native Sibling‘s family! :) The Williams are an absolutely fantastic family who I’ve loved for a few years now. Besides being wonderful people, Kaylee and Ryan write music that will blow yer mind. They just spent the spring in Brooklyn recording their first full-length album and I highly recommend checking them out and buying that as soon as it is available.

We had some time before our set so we took to the streets! It was our first time ever busking and our first time playing with Mike’s acoustic bass! We were beyond stoked by people’s reactions … especially the kiddos! They would make their parents stop and listen! Ha! But the parents liked it too. :)

One of the first guys who approached us on the street we later found out was also performing at the open mic. Andrew ended up being one of our favorite acts because he went up and made a bunch of crazy noises and got the audience to make a bunch of crazy noises too. The whole room kind of turned into monkeys, but it was freeing and creative and fun! Exploring sound as a group is good for the soul.

At Rosie’s, each performer and anyone who buys a drink get a ticket to vote for their favorite performer! We voted for Andrew and this adorable daughter-dad duo called Squirrel Crossing. But we ended up winning! We were stoked. And at the end of the night, I free-styled with some of the other performers.

All in all, Santa Cruz was an absolute blast.
