Hallowzine!!
Last week we put together a big ol’ show featuring an LA Zine Fest pop-up shop, live bands, and a DIY carnival at Club Fais Do-Do! It was a great success!
What are zines, you might ask? Or even, Why did you throw a zine party, perhaps?
Zines are basically self-published magazines that come in various sizes, forms, and styles! Most often they are hand-made, DIY style. We threw a zine party because our new project, The Water Garden, also features a zine!!
check it out! (full length digital form of the zine is coming soon!)
Grab one of these zines for freeeee at any future shows!
A key part of the evening was the incredibly fantastic carnival, designed by Cisco Disco!
We also had readings and spoken word outside in the carnival with a super special guest reading by Davy Rothbart of FOUND magazine. He is truly one of the coolest dudes we know. He works on This American Life by NPR, has a broadway musical based on FOUND magazine, has written a great book called My Heart Is an Idiot, and so much more! It’s really crazy, i don’t know how he manages so much cool at once.
The night started with an epic performance by Ooopopoiooo, a theremin duo from Italy! They even played their theremins with puppets! nutso, right? it was the super great.
the rest of the bands were killer! Suntundra Moon rocked a theatrical performance and musical, with space jesus and a moon on set! Then, VerBS layered on the positive vibes with his fun raps and awesome jumps! The Potential Lunatics thoroughly rocked the way they do, badass with a side of radsauce! Thismachinekillszombies got the crowd movin’ and wore some great hats while doing it. I ran around like a crazy woman and then we closed the night with a couple tunes!
Thank you to everyone who helped put this fun night together! Yay zines! Yay carnivals! (really though, carnivals are super fun). Thank you Fais Do-Do for being beautiful and welcoming, as you are!
Thank you to everyone who came out for the party!
yeee!
